The safu memecoins wave is the meme market's answer to the Binance hack. Within hours of the breach, traders spun up tokens named after CZ's old "funds are safu" line and the compromised "Binance laptop," and some of them traded millions of dollars in volume on their first day. On BNB Chain, a token called SAFU Fund was up more than 3,000% over 24 hours at our 06:00 UTC DEX Screener check on October 31 (09:00 MSK).

What actually happened

The Binance breach gave meme traders a ready-made punchline. "Funds are safu" dates back to 2018, when CZ reassured users during unexpected maintenance and an animator turned the phrase into a looping video. Binance later named its real emergency reserve the Secure Asset Fund for Users, or SAFU.

So when Binance said it would cover hack losses from SAFU and company funds, the meme wrote itself. The sasa daily archive for October 30 recorded 9,111 new meme pools across chains, and the list of busiest launches was crowded with SAFU clones on Solana and BNB Chain. Several Solana tokens called SAFU Fund or Funds Are SAFU each did between about $6 million and $13 million in day-one volume while sitting near $120,000 market caps.

The laptop joke got its own tokens too. "The Binance Laptop" traded on Solana with about $6.7 million in first-day volume, according to sasa, and another version on Robinhood Chain was among the day's biggest percentage gainers. That is a direct nod to Binance's early explanation that a compromised engineer's laptop let the attacker in.

The numbers on the biggest safu memecoins

On BNB Chain, sasa listed a SAFU Fund token up about 2,600% on October 30 with a $1.17 million market cap and around $5 million of volume. Our DEX Screener check on Saturday morning showed that pair near a $1.48 million market cap, up about 3,384% over 24 hours, with roughly $122,000 in liquidity.

Not every clone held up. An older BNB Chain token called Funds Are Safu, created earlier in October, was down about 74% over 24 hours at the same check. Bitrue's explainer describes a community SAFU token launched after CZ reposted the original video, and stresses that buyers must verify the contract because many copies exist.

When the headline is a hack, the trenches turn it into a ticker within the hour. Survival rate is another story.

Why these tokens are so dangerous

Most safu memecoins have tiny liquidity compared with their volume. Day-one turnover of several million dollars on a pool worth around $100,000 means the same coins changed hands many times. Bots and snipers usually dominate that kind of flow.

There are also dozens of near-identical names. Picking the "real" one is impossible because there is no real one. Each is just a contract someone deployed to ride a headline.

How long these metas usually last

Headline memecoins tend to peak while the story is still trending. Once Binance reopens withdrawals and the news cycle moves on, the reason to buy a SAFU joke token fades with it. Our earlier memecoins binance hack coverage showed how quickly the hack narrative moved bigger memes, too.

What survives, if anything, is usually the one clone with the most active community and locked liquidity. Even then, most fade.

What to do as a reader

Never assume a SAFU-branded token has anything to do with Binance or CZ. The exchange's fund is explained on Binance's SAFU FAQ, and it is not a tradable coin.

If you still want to play the meta, check the contract, the pool liquidity, holder concentration and whether the liquidity is locked before you touch anything. Expect most of these to fade once the hack news cycle moves on.

Watch for phishing that borrows the SAFU name, like fake "SAFU refund" claim sites. Binance does not need you to connect a wallet to cover its own losses.
