memecoins binance hack Selloff: TRUMP, PENGU Lead Losses
The memecoins binance hack selloff was uneven: TRUMP and PENGU fell about 8% while PEPE slipped only about 1.4% at our 06:00 UTC CoinGecko snapshot.
Early story. Some claims here are not officially confirmed yet. We update this post as it confirms.

- Benzinga's 9:07 p.m. EDT table on October 29 had DOGE down 7% at about $0.0741 as BTC slid under $77,000.
- At our CoinGecko snapshot (06:00 UTC), TRUMP was down about 8.4%, PENGU about 7.8%, BONK about 5.7%, WIF about 5.2%, while PEPE was down only about 1.4%.
- Coinglass data cited by Benzinga showed roughly $1.5 billion of liquidations in a day, about $1.3 billion of it longs.

The memecoins binance hack selloff was fast, ugly, and surprisingly uneven. Dogs and cats bled with the rest of the market after reports of a multi-billion-dollar breach at Binance, but by 06:00 UTC (09:00 MSK) on October 30 some frogs were barely scratched while Solana memes and politics tokens took the deeper hits.
What actually happened
The shock started on Thursday afternoon in the U.S. Arkham's CEO Miguel Morel told Reuters (via Nikkei Asia) that the incident began around 4:30 p.m. EDT, and data pointed to billions moving out of Binance wallets. Binance later said it would cover all losses, paused withdrawals while it reviewed security, and worked with Tether, Circle, and others to freeze about $3 billion of the affected assets.
Memes did what memes do in a liquidation cascade: they amplified it. Benzinga logged dogecoin down 7% on the day at its evening snapshot, in line with XRP and Solana, while the Crypto Fear & Greed Index slipped into "Fear." Majors fell first, then the high-beta tail followed.
By the morning in Europe, the picture had split. Our CoinGecko pull at 06:00 UTC showed:
- DOGE: about $0.0760, down about 3.3% in 24 hours
- SHIB: down about 4%
- PEPE: down about 1.4%, but still up about 10% over seven days
- BONK: down about 5.7%
- WIF: down about 5.2%, and roughly 15% lower over seven days
- PENGU: down about 7.8%
- TRUMP: down about 8.4%
Why PEPE held up better
Timing explains a lot. CoinMarketCap's market note shows PEPE ripping about 8% intraday on October 29, from roughly $0.00000489 at 13:00 UTC to around $0.00000528 by 19:00 UTC, with 24-hour volume near $1.27 billion. CMC called it a technical breakout driven by sentiment and speculative flows, not a fundamental catalyst. That cushion was already in place when the hack headlines landed later in the evening.
We covered the earlier part of that run in pepe justin sun, when Arkham-flagged wallets were the talking point. The memecoins binance hack tape shows the other side: a frog that pumps before a shock has more room to give back without turning red on the day.
In a forced-selling day, the coins that already pumped can look strong on paper while the late longs get wiped.
Solana memes had no such cushion. WIF was already bleeding on the week, and BONK and PENGU trade as high-beta bets on Solana and NFT sentiment. When leverage unwinds, those are the first bags people dump to cover margin elsewhere.
The liquidation angle
Dogecoin has a long record of acting as a leverage gauge for retail, which we broke down in dogecoin liquidations. The Coinglass figure cited by Benzinga, about $1.5 billion liquidated with roughly $1.3 billion from longs, fits that pattern: the pain came from crowded long positions, not from anything specific to DOGE, SHIB, or frogs.
That matters for reading the bounce. If spot buyers step in once Binance withdrawals resume, high-beta memes can snap back hard. If the incident drags on, they can keep leaking as traders rotate into stablecoins or the few names that held up.
What to do as a reader
First, separate exchange risk from token risk. The memecoins binance hack drop came from market structure and forced selling, not from contract exploits on DOGE, PEPE, or BONK themselves. If your coins sat on Binance, the relevant question is withdrawal status, which only Binance's official channels can answer.
Second, don't chase the first green candle. Memecoins tend to overshoot both ways after liquidation events, and spreads widen on thin books. Check volume and order-book depth before you size anything.
Third, keep a shortlist of what held up and why. PEPE's resilience came from a pre-hack pump, not from a safe-haven status. That distinction matters if you plan to ape into a bounce.
Nothing here is investment advice. Memecoins can fall far faster than they rise, and a market-wide shock can erase weeks of gains in an hour.
