trezor safe 5 Implant Report: CryptoBilis Buyers Told to Move
tl;dr
  • The report describes an extra board between the main board and screen that could read the recovery phrase and send it over a mobile network.
  • Trezor has not examined the device yet but calls the report credible; no losses have been reported.
  • Affected buyers can get a replacement device or a voucher; CryptoBilis was already removed after similar Ledger tampering cases.

The trezor safe 5 implant report is the hardware wallet story nobody wanted this week. Trezor told anyone who bought one of its devices from former reseller CryptoBilis since March 2026 to move funds to a brand-new wallet and seed, after a customer in Indonesia reported a hidden circuit board with a cellular module inside a Safe 5.

What actually happened

According to Trezor's official blog notice, its security team received a responsible disclosure on October 28. The device was a Trezor Safe 5 bought in August 2026 from CryptoBilis through the Indonesian marketplace Tokopedia. CryptoBilis had been an official Trezor reseller in Southeast Asia until October.

The customer described an additional circuit board fitted between the main board and the screen, with a cellular module and an antenna. Per the report, which Trezor says it has not verified, the board reads what the screen shows, including the wallet backup, and transmits it whenever the device is plugged in.

Trezor interviewed the reporter on video and decided to warn customers before lab confirmation. "We'd rather warn people now than wait for confirmation and find out someone lost their funds in the meantime," chief commercial officer Danny Sanders said, as quoted by The Block and Cointelegraph.

How this connects to Ledger

This is not the first CryptoBilis problem. Trezor's notice says Ledger earlier confirmed that some devices sold by the same reseller had been physically tampered with in a sophisticated supply-chain attack. The Block reported that Trezor removed CryptoBilis from its reseller network earlier this month after those Ledger incidents, and that four other inspected devices showed no signs of tampering.

Trezor says it will not draw comparisons to the Ledger case while investigations continue, and it does not know who is behind the trezor safe 5 implant. A spokesperson told Cointelegraph that sales through CryptoBilis were "very small" and that seals and packaging alone are not enough protection.

The weak point here is not the chip. It is the box arriving from someone other than the maker.

Why it matters beyond one reseller

Hardware wallets are supposed to be the safe option. A credible implant report, even an unconfirmed one, reminds everyone that the supply chain is part of the security model. A device is only as trustworthy as the path it took to your desk.

It also lands in a week when security is the only topic. After the binance 6.3b hack and data-vendor incidents like the coinbase amplitude breach, attackers are clearly going after the layers around the core product.

What happens next

Trezor says its lab will examine the device as soon as it arrives and that it will update the notice if any losses are reported. It also said it is working with Ledger and other partners. Until the teardown is done, the details of the implant remain the customer's account, not a confirmed finding.

That cuts both ways. The report could turn out narrower than feared, or the lab could confirm a more serious supply-chain campaign. Either way, the safe move for affected buyers does not change.

What to do as a reader

If you bought a Trezor from CryptoBilis from March 2026 onwards and use it, follow Trezor's advice: create a new wallet with a new seed on a trusted device and move funds. Restoring the old phrase elsewhere does not fix it, because the phrase itself may be exposed.

If the device is still in the box, do not set it up and never type an existing recovery phrase into it. Contact Trezor Support for a replacement or voucher, and keep the CryptoBilis device.

Buy hardware wallets only from the maker or a reseller the maker lists today. Expect phishing: Trezor warns scammers will exploit the trezor safe 5 implant news with fake emails, letters and calls. Nobody legitimate will ever ask for your recovery phrase.

Nothing here is investment advice. It is basic wallet hygiene that applies to every brand.

Not financial advice. DYOR, ser.
