Early story. Some claims here are not officially confirmed yet. We update this post as it confirms.

telegram money wallet Rolls Out Non-Custodial Gram Inside the App
tl;dr
  • Money lets users store and send Gram (GRAM) and buy Telegram gifts and collectible usernames; users control private keys.
  • Rollout is gradual: per Walt, the Money section can appear after someone sends the user a transfer; there is no published country-by-country schedule in the coverage we used.
  • Walt (formerly Wallet) is a separate service inside Telegram with 300+ assets; its main wallet is custodial, while Money is self-custody Gram.

telegram money wallet access is widening inside a messenger with more than a billion users, and the product is non-custodial Gram, not Walt's custodial trading stack. Walt said Money is rolling out more widely after a limited preview, with the Money section often appearing after a user receives a transfer. Keys stay with the user.

What actually happened

Crypto Journal's rollout report says Telegram is expanding access to Money, a built-in non-custodial wallet for storing and transferring Gram. Walt's announcement framed the move as a wide rollout to Telegram's audience of over a billion people after a period when only some users could see it.

Money's feature list is short on purpose: store Gram, send Gram, and pay for Telegram digital goods such as gifts and collectible usernames. Because it is non-custodial, users control the private keys instead of handing them to a service provider.

Activation is the catch. Walt says the Money section shows up after someone sends the user a transfer. That means the headline is not "every account has a wallet today." CoinScreamer's write-up adds that there is no published country-by-country schedule in the materials it reviewed. Naming history still confuses timelines. Toncoin became Gram on June 15, 2026 after a community vote, Wallet became Walt on September 28, and Money is the messenger-native self-custody tab in the October rollout coverage. Three renames, three products, one app icon. Say which one you mean.

Money vs Walt: read the label

telegram money wallet coverage gets messy when outlets blur Money and Walt. They are different products.

Money is the simple self-custody Gram wallet built into Telegram. Walt is a separate service that runs inside Telegram, with more than 300 assets including cryptocurrencies, tokenized stocks, ETFs and metals, plus perpetual futures and Earn programs. Walt renamed itself from Wallet on September 28, 2026, without forcing users to move assets. Walt's main wallet is custodial; Walt also offers a separate non-custodial DeFi Account, per support docs cited by Crypto Journal.

The two can connect. After Money is active, users can top it up from Walt in a few taps, and Walt says those transfers are instant with no network fees. That claim covers the Walt-to-Money transfer path, not every TON-chain transaction.

One app, two wallets, two custody models. Check which tab you are in before you hit send.

Gram is the renamed Toncoin ticker after the June 15, 2026 community vote; the blockchain kept the TON name and no token swap was required. For other big-platform wallet pushes, see Samsung Wallet USDC. For equity-inside-messenger style products, compare with OKXICE tokenized stocks rather than assuming Walt and Money are interchangeable.

Why the telegram money wallet rollout matters

Distribution is the moat. Most crypto apps fight for downloads; Telegram already sits on phones worldwide. A non-custodial wallet that can appear after a friend sends Gram is a low-friction onboarding path, which is why messenger-native money tabs move markets even when the feature set is deliberately small.

Coverage still disagrees on reach. Some headlines say "all users"; Walt's own wording and Crypto Journal describe a wide, gradual rollout gated by a first transfer. Prefer the gradual framing unless Telegram publishes a harder metric.

Self-custody inside a chat app changes the scam surface. Seed-phrase phishing, fake support accounts and "verify your Gram wallet" mini-apps will ride every rollout wave. Official activation language in the coverage we used points to receiving a transfer, not to clicking a stranger's bot.

Product scope is intentionally narrow today: Gram in, Gram out, Telegram digital goods. That narrowness is a feature for people who want a simple self-custody rail, and a limitation for people expecting Walt-style multi-asset trading in the same tab. Do not assume futures, Earn or tokenized stocks live under Money just because they live under Walt.

What to do as a reader

If the Money tab appears in your Telegram, treat it like any self-custody wallet. Back up the recovery method it gives you, because nobody can reset lost keys for you. Know which product you are in: Money is self-custody Gram; Walt's main wallet is custodial.

Expect scammers to ride the news. Fake "activate your Money wallet" bots and links will appear; real activation, per Walt, comes from receiving a transfer, not from a stranger's DM. Nothing here is investment advice.

Not financial advice. DYOR, ser.
