The Base Meme Summit is back, and it lands on October 22. The official Base account announced a community-run livestream for memecoins on Base, starting at 8:30am PT, 11:30am ET and 3:30pm UTC, with interviews, Base announcements and a community Q&A. Base memes were already green into the news, led by TOSHI and BRETT.

What actually happened

Base's post was short: "Base Meme Summit is back. A community-run event for memecoins on Base." A follow-up promised "interviews with memecoin leaders," "announcements from Base" and a "Q&A with the community," plus a card generator so projects can tell their holders they are attending.

The legal thread under it matters as much as the hype. Base says the event is "for informational and educational purposes only," that views expressed do not represent Base or Coinbase, and that nothing shared should be read as an endorsement. In plain English: a coin getting airtime on the stream is not Base vouching for it.

Still, the timing is notable. Base has spent most of the year talking about apps, payments and tokenized stocks on Base. Giving memecoins their own branded stage, with chain announcements promised, is a clear signal that the team wants that culture on its network rather than only on Solana.

The Base Meme Summit scoreboard

Here is how the main Base memes looked on CoinGecko at about 06:05 UTC on October 21, before the stream:

  • TOSHI: price ~$0.000120, market cap ~$50.8M, +13.9% in 24h, ~$6.5M volume.
  • BRETT: price ~$0.00504, market cap ~$50.0M, +8.1% in 24h, ~$3.3M volume.
  • DEGEN: market cap ~$34.6M, +1.7%. DebtReliefBot (DRB): ~$15.9M, +1.4%. Basecat: ~$12.0M, +4.4%.

For scale, CoinGecko's whole meme token category was near $29.9B, up about 3%, and the Solana meme category sat around $3.18B. Base memes as a group are less than a tenth of Solana's, which is exactly why a stage like this can move them. Our recent Solana memecoin share report shows how dominant that chain still is.

Why "Base announcements" is the real hook

A meme stream alone does not move markets for long. The line traders will watch is the promise of announcements from Base. That could mean anything from creator tools to grants to listing or discovery features. Base has not said what is coming, so anyone claiming to know is guessing.

Watch the replies under the announcement too. The announcement drew more than 130 replies by morning, many of them from accounts pitching their own tokens, which tells you how much demand there is for a slot on the stream. Being loud in the replies is not the same as being invited.

There is also a precedent problem. Chain-branded meme pushes tend to pump the leaders first, then the long tail of copies. When the stream ends, attention moves on. We saw the hangover pattern in our look at Robinhood Chain meme losses, where most new tokens bled after the initial excitement.

No odds for this one

There is no live Polymarket market on the Base Meme Summit or on any Base memecoin price as of this writing, so there are no odds to quote. If one appears before Thursday, check its rules and liquidity before trusting the number.

What to do as a reader

Put 3:30pm UTC on Thursday in your calendar and watch the official Base account for the stream link. Do not click "stream" links from reply accounts. Scammers love big live events because people are rushing to tune in.

If you are considering a Base meme, compare its market cap and liquidity before the stream with what it does during and after. Pre-event runs often price in news that turns out smaller than hoped. Nothing on the stream is an endorsement, by Base's own legal note, and nothing here is investment advice. Small size, clear exit plan, no chasing green candles at the exact moment a ticker is mentioned.
