PUFFER Upbit listing: KRW Market Opens as Token Doubles on CoinGecko
tl;dr
  • Upbit's existing BTC market for PUFFER spiked as much as 243.75% intraday versus the prior close, per Bloomingbit's 2:10 p.m. KST print.
  • On the new won market, PUFFER opened at a 93 won first match, tagged 118 won (+26.88%) and traded about 6 billion won in roughly its first ten minutes.
  • Upbit describes Puffer as an Ether restaking protocol, with PUFFER as its governance token. Korea listing pumps are fast in both directions.

The PUFFER Upbit listing went live this morning. Upbit added PUFFER to its Korean won market with trading from 14:00 KST on October 15, which is 05:00 UTC, 08:00 MSK or 1 a.m. ET. By 06:01 UTC CoinGecko had the token near $0.058, up about 104% in 24 hours on roughly $36.5M of volume.

What actually happened

TokenPost and PANews both reported the same schedule: Upbit opens a PUFFER/KRW market at 14:00 local time on October 15. TokenPost spelled out the conversion as 05:00 UTC and 1 a.m. ET. We did not fetch Upbit's own notice page, so the timing here rests on those two outlets plus Bloomingbit's live coverage, which all agree.

The listing matters because KRW pairs on Upbit are where Korean retail actually trades. A token that only had a BTC pair on Upbit was mostly a sideshow for local traders. A won market puts it one tap away from Upbit's main won-denominated retail crowd. That is why the PUFFER Upbit listing moved the price before and right after the open.

Bloomingbit's snapshot at 2:10 p.m. KST, about ten minutes after the open, showed PUFFER at 0.00000091 BTC on Upbit's BTC market, up 184.38% from the prior close, after an intraday high of 0.00000110 BTC, up 243.75%. On the won market it was at 102 won, up 9.68% from the opening match of 93 won, after peaking at 118 won.

Why the two percentages look so different

Those numbers are not contradictory. The BTC-market gain is measured against yesterday's close, before the listing news hit. The KRW-market gain is measured against the first trade on a brand-new market, which already opened at a pumped price. Most of the move happened on the way in. By the time the won market printed its first match, the easy part of the rally was done.

CoinGecko's global price tells the same story from a different angle. At 06:01 UTC PUFFER was at $0.058112, up 104.3% in 24 hours, with about $36.5M of volume. A refresh at about 06:04 UTC showed $0.060226, up 112.4%, on roughly $37.8M of volume and a market cap near $34M. When daily volume is bigger than the entire market cap, you are watching a hot-potato market, not a quiet accumulation.

A KRW listing is a liquidity event first and a fundamentals event a distant second.

What Puffer actually is

Per Upbit's description relayed by Bloomingbit, Puffer is a restaking protocol: users deposit Ether, which is then used to help secure other networks. The PUFFER token is used for governance, letting holders vote on key project decisions. That makes it a DeFi infrastructure token, not a memecoin, which is why it sits in our Hype rubric.

Nothing in today's coverage points to a protocol change, new product or revenue event. The catalyst is distribution. That is worth keeping in mind when the chart starts to look like a story about restaking.

What to do as a reader

If you are watching the PUFFER Upbit listing, the playbook from recent Korea listings is the main reference. Our PONS Upbit listing piece followed a token that popped on a KRW debut and then faded in a sell-the-news move over the following days. Not every listing ends that way, but the pattern is common enough to plan around.

Compare venues before you act on any print. The won price, the BTC-pair price and the global CoinGecko price can disagree for hours, and won-market premiums can persist longer than traders expect. If you trade from outside Korea, note that regulatory access keeps shifting; our Korea crypto block report covers the FIU's move against 27 unregistered offshore operators. For a non-Korean listing contrast, see how the VAYLA KuCoin listing was structured with a call auction before trading.

Check the contract, the unlock schedule and the order book depth on whichever venue you use. A 6 billion won first-minute burst is impressive, and it is also exactly the kind of flow that reverses when early buyers rotate. Nothing here is investment advice.
