Pepina memecoin Nearly Doubles on Ethereum in a Day
tl;dr
  • PEPINA's main Uniswap pool on Ethereum opened on October 23; CoinGecko showed it as the top 24-hour gainer among meme tokens worth more than $5 million in our pull.
  • DexScreener counted about 2,760 buys against roughly 1,020 sells in 24 hours, with about $454,000 of pool liquidity.
  • A second "Pepina" token exists on Robinhood Chain, so the contract address matters more than the name.

The Pepina memecoin is the frog play of the weekend. PEPINA, an Ethereum token pitched as Pepe's moody cousin "who wears black," nearly doubled in 24 hours and printed a fresh all-time high early Sunday. At our CoinGecko check at 06:04 UTC on October 25, it traded near $0.028 with a market cap around $28 million, after topping out near $0.032 at 04:56 UTC.

What actually happened

The Ethereum version launched quietly. DexScreener shows its main PEPINA/WETH pool on Uniswap V3 created at 16:43 UTC on October 23. The project site describes a fixed 1 billion supply, zero buy and sell tax and locked liquidity, and frames the character as a pale-blue frog with long black hair who "never smiles first."

Then the buyers showed up. CoinGecko had PEPINA up about 96% over 24 hours at 06:04 UTC with roughly $13 million in volume. DexScreener's six-hour change was about plus 185%, while the last hour was down about 7.5%, which is what a fresh top looks like on a chart.

The timing is not random. PEPE itself ran hard this week. CoinDesk reported a 14% jump on Thursday, PEPE's biggest one-day gain in a month, with no clear catalyst behind it. When the parent meme runs, traders hunt for smaller "family" tokens, and a female Pepe spin is an easy story to sell.

The Pepina memecoin copycat problem

Two tokens now share the name. The Ethereum token sits at contract 0x8ce3cac9fe9436e6e4b6539e6853ac1b037dace4, per its site and CoinGecko. A separate Pepina site promotes a PEPINA token on Robinhood Chain, trading on Uniswap V3 there, with its own branding about rainy nights and cold coffee.

That second site embeds an October 20 post from the official Pepe account on X that reads "bid my blood to run $PEPE." It does not show the Pepe account endorsing either Pepina token, and we found no such endorsement.

Same frog, same ticker, different chain. If you buy by name instead of by contract, you are trusting luck.

This is how memecoin weekends usually go. One version pumps, copycats appear on cheaper chains, and late buyers end up in the wrong pool. Search results, Telegram groups and even some trackers can mix the two up, because the names, tickers and artwork look alike at a glance. The only thing that cannot be faked is the contract address.

What the numbers say

The buy-to-sell ratio looks strong, with about 2.7 buys for every sell over 24 hours on DexScreener. That tells you more people are buying than selling, not that the buyers are big or that they will hold.

Liquidity is the real limit. Around $454,000 in the main pool against a $27-28 million valuation means a large sell order would move the price a lot. CoinGecko listed only one market for it in our check, the Uniswap V3 pool on Ethereum, so all of the tracked trading runs through that single pool. There is no centralized exchange listing to absorb a rush for the exits.

The Pepina memecoin also inherits PEPE's mood swings. PEPE was down about 2.6% on the day at our check but still up roughly 13% on the week. If the parent cools further, offshoots usually fall harder. Our PEPE Armstrong meme piece and MemeCore flips PEPE story show how fast frog-season narratives come and go.

What to do as a reader

Verify the contract on CoinGecko's Pepina page and on the official Pepina site before doing anything. The project itself warns that anyone sending you a contract by DM is not legit.

Check which chain your wallet is on, too. The Ethereum token and the Robinhood Chain token are not interchangeable, and bridging the wrong one is not possible because they are separate projects.

Read the liquidity, not the market cap. A token that is two days old, near its high and trading through one pool can drop by double digits in minutes.

Do not treat the Pepina memecoin as a PEPE proxy. It has no official link to the original project that we could find. If you trade it, use money you can lose completely, set limit orders and expect volatility both ways. Nothing here is investment advice.
