PENGU October unlock Drops 723M Tokens Right After the Abstract Exit
PENGU October unlock releases about 723 million tokens to the team and company on October 17, days after Igloo said it will shut down its Abstract chain.
Early story. Some claims here are not officially confirmed yet. We update this post as it confirms.

- Roughly 723 million PENGU unlock on October 17 for the team and company, about 1% of circulating supply.
- CryptoTicker valued the tranche at around $6.3 million at its October 8 price; monthly tranches run until November 2028.
- PENGU traded around $0.0084 on Kraken at 06:00 UTC on October 10, after dropping on the Abstract news.

The PENGU October unlock lands on October 17, and the timing is awkward. About 723 million PENGU are scheduled to go to the team and company just days after Igloo, the firm behind Pudgy Penguins, said it will shut down its Abstract blockchain and go all in on the Pudgy brand and the token. Monthly unlocks aren't new, but this one hits right after a public admission of heavy losses.
What actually happened
Igloo CEO Luca Netz said on October 6 that Abstract, the consumer-focused Ethereum layer 2 that launched mainnet in January 2025, will wind down. Abstract shuts on December 15, 2026, and users have to move assets out before then. CoinStats, citing CoinDesk, says about $76 million in bridged value remained on Abstract as of October 7.
Netz said Igloo funded Abstract for about 18 months and absorbed losses in the "tens of millions of dollars." Abstract itself cites more than 400,000 users and over 144 apps on the chain, and KuCoin notes it processed more than 300 million transactions. Even so, Netz pointed to thin liquidity, limited DeFi activity, scant institutional interest and high costs. Igloo also ruled out an Abstract token or ICO, arguing a token only works when real demand drives it. We broke down the shutdown itself in our Abstract shutdown piece.
The unlock is the next date on the calendar. According to CryptoTicker, the 723 million PENGU follow a fixed schedule that releases tranches on the 17th of every month, most recently on September 17.
How big is the PENGU October unlock?
CoinStats calls it roughly 1% of circulating supply, and CryptoTicker says "a good 1 percent." CoinStats lists circulating supply at about 62.86 billion PENGU and total supply at about 76.72 billion. CryptoTicker, citing CoinGecko, puts maximum supply at roughly 88.9 billion with about 70.7% circulating. Those supply figures come from different data sets, so we're not blending them.
At CoinStats' price of $0.008386, PENGU had a market cap of about $526.89 million and 24-hour volume of about $169.57 million. That daily volume dwarfs the tranche's dollar value, which is why a 1% unlock rarely moves price on its own.
What matters is behavior. CryptoTicker notes that after October 17, the blockchain will show whether recipient addresses send PENGU to exchanges or hold it. It's not known whether Igloo will sell released tokens to fund its pivot.
The price reaction, two versions
Sources disagree on the size of the Abstract drop. CryptoTicker says PENGU fell roughly 10% after the news, from around $0.0094 toward $0.0085. KuCoin's flash says PENGU fell 7%. Different windows, different numbers; we're stating both.
On Kraken at 06:00 UTC on October 10, PENGU last traded at about $0.008393, inside a 24-hour range of roughly $0.00793 to $0.00841. CryptoTicker flagged about $0.0094 as overhead resistance and the $0.0085 zone, where the moving averages sit, as support. KuCoin's analysis listed support at $0.00852 and $0.00802.
Why this unlock feels different
Normally, a scheduled 1% tranche is background noise. This time, the company receiving tokens just closed a money-losing chain and says it is betting everything on Pudgy Penguins. That creates two readings. Bulls see a focused team with fewer distractions. Bears see a team that might need cash.
Neither reading is confirmed. Netz has said he'll take Pudgy Penguins to the next level, but CryptoTicker notes concrete plans are still missing. For a comparable setup, check our PUMP October unlock breakdown.
What to do as a reader
Mark October 17 and watch the recipient wallets with a block explorer or tracker. Transfers to exchanges are a sell-pressure signal; tokens staying put take pressure off. Don't confuse the PENGU October unlock with new information; it's been on the schedule for months.
If you still have funds on Abstract, move them before December 15, since anything left after that could become inaccessible. PENGU itself mainly runs on Solana, plus Ethereum and BNB Chain, where nothing changes. Memecoins can drop hard, so size positions accordingly. Nothing here is investment advice.
