Niannian BNB meme: 2,500% Headline, a Pile of Same-Name Tokens
tl;dr
  • PANews (Oct 18): BNB Chain top-10 meme volume was about $7.9M, led by "sauce" at ~$1.53M; Niannian posted a 2,562.5% 24h gain (contract not specified).
  • DexScreener (~06:01 UTC Oct 18), "Niannian_GiggleAcademy" 0xf4d5...7777 on PancakeSwap: price ~$0.000796, market cap ~$773K, 24h volume ~$1.01M, +307% 24h, liquidity ~$79K; pool created Oct 15.
  • A Niannian fan site lists a different, older contract (0x9c27...c096) that was flat at the same check, plus there are newer copies on BNB Chain and Solana.

The Niannian BNB meme is Sunday's BNB Chain moonshot with a copycat problem: PANews' October 18 Meme Daily lists Niannian with a 2,562.5% 24-hour gain, but DexScreener shows several tokens using the same 年年 name, and the one with real volume at ~06:01 UTC was up about 307% on the day, not 2,500%.

What actually happened

PANews' daily meme snapshot is the source that put Niannian on the radar. It reports BNB Chain's top 10 memes did about $7.904 million of 24-hour volume, led by sauce at about $1.533 million, and singles out Niannian for a 2,562.5% daily gain. The note does not say which Niannian contract it measured.

That matters because DexScreener search returns at least four BNB Chain tokens using the name or a lookalike. The active one at our ~06:01 UTC pull was "Niannian_GiggleAcademy," contract 0xf4d5765E448774eD9482870420Da7c3C4C787777, in a PancakeSwap pool created October 15. It showed about $1.01 million of 24-hour volume, a market cap near $773K, and liquidity around $79K.

Its short windows were mixed: about +59% over 6 hours but roughly −10% over the last hour. Transaction counts leaned buy-side, with about 6,230 buys against 3,996 sells over 24 hours.

The Niannian BNB meme copycat map

Here is what else carries the name. A fan site at niannianbnb.com describes NianNian as tied to education and charity themes and lists contract 0x9C27c4072738CF4b7B0B7071af0ad5666BdDC096. At our check that token sat near a $295K market cap with only about $6K of daily volume and a small decline. It is clearly not the one that pumped.

There is also an older token named "Giggle Cat" with the ticker niannian at 0xCb74...7777, trading near an $11K market cap, a lookalike 黏黏 token, and a Solana pump created just after midnight UTC on October 18 with a reported market cap around $28K and no listed liquidity. Name farming is the whole game here.

When five tokens share one name, the name is the bait. The contract is the product.

The "GiggleAcademy" tag in the active token's name references Giggle Academy, the free education project associated with Binance founder CZ. We found no official announcement linking Giggle Academy or CZ to any of these tokens. Branding is not endorsement.

Why BNB memes keep doing this

BNB Chain meme culture leans heavily on Chinese-language names and Binance-adjacent references, and a name that trends on one contract gets cloned within hours. Launchpads that mint vanity addresses ending in 7777 or 8888 make clones look official at a glance. Many of today's BNB copies share that cosmetic suffix.

For how this pattern played out before, see our coverage of Four.meme's stock meme and the broader memecoin lifecycle study, which tracks how fast these spikes typically fade.

There is no Polymarket market on Niannian, so there are no crowd odds to quote.

Reading the numbers honestly

A +307% day on roughly $1 million of volume and $79K of liquidity is a small pond. The 24-hour volume is larger than the entire market cap, which means the same tokens are changing hands repeatedly. That kind of churn usually reflects short-term traders flipping, not long-term holders building a position.

The buy-heavy transaction count looks bullish on the surface. In practice it often means many small buys and fewer, larger sells, so the count alone tells you little about who is winning. Watch liquidity on each check; if it shrinks while volume stays high, insiders may be leaving.

What to do as a reader

If you follow the Niannian BNB meme, do not quote 2,562.5% and the DexScreener price in the same breath. PANews' number and our ~06:01 UTC freeze (+307% on 0xf4d5...7777) may describe different contracts or different windows. Keep them separate and timestamped.

Before any trade, copy the contract from the pool you have actually checked, confirm liquidity is real, and assume newer same-name tokens are traps until proven otherwise. With under $80K of liquidity, exits can get ugly quickly. Nothing here is investment advice.
