The CATE memecoin is the slow-burn cat on Solana that refuses to fade: at ~06:01 UTC on October 18, DexScreener showed its main PumpSwap pool near a $72.9 million market cap, up about 10% on the day, while an X trending story described a holder base approaching 143,000 wallets roughly two months after launch.
What actually happened
CATE, short for Catecoin, trades under the Solana mint Ai66LHZG9MCzg1WKdawwqduVAXpNDUuV8M3uyq5ppump. Its main PumpSwap pool on DexScreener dates to July 26, so this is not a fresh launch. What is new is the steady grind: while most cat coins spike and die inside a week, CATE has kept climbing into the tens of millions.
Our DexScreener freeze put the main pool at about $0.0756, a market cap near $72.9 million, 24-hour volume around $2.2 million, and liquidity of roughly $3.1 million. Several smaller Meteora pools trade the same mint at slightly different prices, which is normal arbitrage noise, not a red flag by itself.
The X trending card, which summarizes posts rather than verifying them, describes the "CATEmunity" dominating social trading leaderboards on platforms like FOMO and pulling new wallets in. It cites nearly 143,000 holders. We could not independently verify the holder number, so treat it as a community claim.
Why the CATE memecoin is different from a pump
Most Solana metas we cover look like a vertical line followed by a long slide. Compare the MissRose Solana surge or the Nihilism Solana surge: huge daily percentages, tiny liquidity, and fast fades. CATE is the opposite profile. A 10% day on $3 million of liquidity is boring in degen terms, and boring is the point.
Liquidity-to-market-cap is the useful ratio here. About $3.1 million of pool depth against a $72.9 million cap is roughly 4%, which is thin compared with large caps but very deep for a Pump.fun-born meme. It means a mid-size sell does not crater the chart instantly, which is part of why holders stay.
A cat coin with deep liquidity and a slow chart is still a cat coin. Slow up can become fast down.
Volume, though, is modest: about $2.2 million in 24 hours is roughly 3% of the market cap. That is a holding community, not a rotation casino. If volume suddenly spikes several-fold while price stalls, that is often distribution.
Who is behind it
No named team or company appeared in the sources we used. The project story is community-led, with fair-launch talking points like revoked mint authority and burned liquidity. Revoked mint means no new tokens can be created; burned LP means the original liquidity cannot be pulled. Both reduce specific rug risks, but neither stops large holders from selling.
Name confusion exists, too. DexScreener search also surfaces an unrelated "CATE" pool on Orca with an absurd reported market cap and near-zero volume. That is a junk listing. The real one is the ...uyq5ppump mint with millions in daily volume.
The social engine
For the CATE memecoin, the X summary points to leaderboard culture as the growth loop: holders compete on social trading apps, share wins, and recruit friends. That loop is powerful while the chart rises, because every new wallet is also a new promoter. It cuts the other way on a drawdown, when the same accounts go quiet at once.
Early-holder stories of six-figure gains also circulate in that summary. Those are survivorship anecdotes, not a base rate, and they are exactly the kind of post that pulls late buyers in near local tops.
What to do as a reader
If you follow the CATE memecoin, track three numbers on each check: market cap, pool liquidity, and 24-hour volume, each with a timestamp. Our ~06:01 UTC set was $72.9M / $3.11M / $2.20M. A falling liquidity number with steady price is the quiet warning sign to watch.
Verify the mint before buying anything, ignore junk pools with impossible caps, and do not treat community holder counts as audited data. See our broader take on Solana memecoin market share for where cat coins fit in the cycle. Nothing here is investment advice.
