Tesla SpaceX merger odds: 27.5% for 2026 Before Earnings Week
Tesla SpaceX merger odds sit at about 27.5% for an announcement by December 31 (Polymarket ~06:11 UTC Oct 19), even after Barclays floated a late-October window. SpaceX reports Oct 20, Tesla Oct 21.
Early story. Some claims here are not officially confirmed yet. We update this post as it confirms.

- Polymarket (~06:11 UTC Oct 19): "Tesla and SpaceX merger officially announced by December 31?" at about 27.5% Yes; the June 30, 2027 rung near 53.5% and December 31, 2027 near 61.5%.
- Barclays (Dan Levy, Oct 14): a likely structure is SpaceX acquiring Tesla in an all-stock deal at roughly 0.7 SpaceX shares per Tesla share; the timing could be before Tesla's annual meeting, or 6–12 months out.
- Earnings: SpaceX after the close Tuesday with a 4:30 PM ET webcast on X; Tesla Wednesday with its Q&A at 5:30 PM ET.

Tesla SpaceX merger odds are the Musk-empire trade of the week, and the calendar is stacked. SpaceX reports Q3 results on Tuesday, October 20, Tesla follows on Wednesday, October 21, and a Barclays note last week argued a merger announcement could come as soon as late October or early November. Polymarket is not buying that timeline yet.
What actually happened
The fresh fuel is a Barclays research note led by analyst Dan Levy and published around October 14. Yahoo Finance and Axios both covered it. The bank's base case is that if a deal happens, SpaceX would be the buyer and pay in stock. Using a $2.1 trillion value for SpaceX and $1.5 trillion for Tesla, Barclays sketched an exchange ratio of about 0.7 SpaceX shares for each Tesla share.
On timing, Barclays laid out two windows. One is an announcement before Tesla's annual shareholder meeting, which it says is due by December 6 at the latest and would need a late October or early November reveal. The other is a slower path, six to twelve months out. Barclays kept its Equal Weight rating and $370 price target on Tesla.
The control math is the part Musk fans keep screenshotting. Musk owns about 48% of SpaceX with roughly 82% of its votes, according to the note. In the combined company, Barclays estimates he would hold about 37% of the equity and 56% of the votes.
What Polymarket thinks
The Polymarket merger ladder only needs an official announcement from Tesla or SpaceX, or a consensus of credible reporting, that one will acquire or merge with the other. The deal does not have to close. At our ~06:11 UTC Oct 19 snapshot, the December 31, 2026 rung traded around 27.5% (bid 27, ask 28) with about $266K traded on it. January 31, 2027 sat near 33.5%, February 28 near 34%, June 30, 2027 near 53.5% and December 31, 2027 near 61.5%.
Read the shape, not one number. The market thinks a deal announcement is more likely than not by mid-2027, but only about one in four for this calendar year. That is a big gap from the "imminent" tone on X.
Barclays gave the market a date to watch. The market said "cool, prove it."
Why the earnings calls matter for Tesla SpaceX merger odds
Both calls are prime venues for hints. But Teslarati's SpaceX preview recalls that Musk said in July that a combination cannot be discussed on an earnings call. That makes a formal reveal on Tuesday or Wednesday unlikely, though analysts will still ask. A separate Polymarket mention market on Tesla's call priced the word "SpaceX" being said at about 84.5% at our snapshot, which tells you how much the topic is in the air.
There is a supply angle too. Up to 1.3 billion SpaceX shares are set to unlock on Thursday, October 22, per earnings previews, which could add volatility to anything priced off SpaceX's valuation. We broke down that valuation earlier in SpaceX market cap, and the Tesla side of the hype machine shows up in our Tesla Roadster 0-60 Polymarket piece.
The risks to the merger thesis
A merger between two public companies controlled by the same person raises obvious governance questions. Independent directors would need to approve terms, minority holders on both sides would have opinions, and regulators would look closely. None of that is impossible, but each step adds time, which is exactly what the 2027 rungs are pricing.
There is also no official statement from either company that talks are underway. Everything so far is analyst modeling and Musk-adjacent speculation. That is why Tesla SpaceX merger odds sit well under 50% for 2026.
What to do as a reader
If you trade the ladder, know that it resolves on an announcement, not a completion, and that a vague Musk post might not be enough unless it clearly states an acquisition or merger. Watch the Tuesday and Wednesday calls, but do not expect a formal reveal there given Musk's own July comment.
If you hold either stock, a merger headline would hit both, possibly in opposite directions depending on the ratio. Check Tesla's proxy timing for the annual meeting, because that is the date Barclays flagged. Nothing here is investment advice, ser; read the Axios summary of the Barclays note before you trust any screenshot.
