Pearl PRL surge: AI PoW Coin Prints a $1.92 ATH Stamp
The Pearl PRL surge put PRL near $1.92 on CoinGecko at ~06:01 UTC Oct 14 (~$660M cap, +24.6% 24h) with an ATH tagged $1.92 on Oct 13.
Early story. Some claims here are not officially confirmed yet. We update this post as it confirms.

- Pearl is a Bitcoin-style PoW chain where miners do GPU matrix multiplication instead of SHA-256 hashing — proof of useful work aimed at AI arithmetic.
- Alpha Finance’s October 11 explainer, citing the explorer at block 125,752 on October 10, put roughly 340M PRL mined of a 2.1B cap (~16.2%), with ~1.01M PRL daily issuance at target block times.
- Side plot: Entropy’s Hyperliquid HIP-3 ticker games around PRL (Lookonchain’s September purchase note; October 13 community teases about io:PRL-style perps) keep derivatives gossip attached to the spot move.

Pearl PRL surge chatter is back on the trending board because the coin is doing the one thing CT cannot ignore: printing green while calling itself AI Bitcoin. CoinGecko’s pearl-2 market at about 06:01 UTC October 14 showed PRL near $1.92, a ~$660M market cap, roughly $9.4M in 24h volume, about +24.6% on the day, and an ATH tagged $1.92 on October 13.
What actually happened
Pearl launched April 27, 2026 as a btcd-family fork with a different work function. Miners multiply matrices, prove the work, and earn PRL. The romantic version says those multiplications can be the same math AI inference needs. The skeptical version, documented in Basu’s June 2026 “usefulness gap” preprint summarized by Alpha Finance, says pools accepted random-matrix shares and dominant miners often ran no model at all.
Price discovery is still thin-venue territory in earlier October data (SafeTrade and BigONE dominating reported volume on Alpha Finance’s October 10 snapshot when PRL was near $1.40). By October 14 the CoinGecko card showed a higher print and a fresh ATH stamp. We are not conflating October 10 and October 14 liquidity maps; venues can shift.
Token2049-season narrative, per TechFlow via Alpha Finance, already cast Pearl as a love/hate “Bitcoin of AI” object. The Pearl PRL surge this week is that argument with better candles.
Derivatives gossip, not a Polymarket book
No dedicated Pearl market is part of this article’s source set, so there is no Polymarket section here. Derivatives curiosity routes through Hyperliquid/Entropy gossip instead — and Lookonchain’s September note that a PRL market appeared delisted with no trades is a reminder gossip ≠ open interest.
Why the usefulness fight matters
If most hashpower is useless arithmetic subsidized by emissions, Pearl is a GPU lottery with an AI brand. If paid inference rides along at scale, the “useful” claim gets less ironic. Together AI’s May discount experiment (Gemma 4 via Pearl mining offsets) is evidence of a subsidy model, not proof the whole network produces valued AI output.
Supply math is relentless: ~1M new PRL a day at the cited pace means buyers must absorb dilution continuously. Early low-difficulty issuance (first 40,000 blocks in six days) concentrated a large share of mined coins without vesting, per Alpha Finance’s reading of the explorer and whitepaper.
AI Bitcoin is a great sticker. Matrix tickets accepted with no model attached are the audit.
What to do as a reader
If you track this week’s PRL move, separate CoinGecko’s October 14 tape, Alpha Finance’s October 10–11 supply stats, and any Entropy perps rumor timestamps. Primary explainers: Alpha Finance and CoinGecko Pearl. Related AI-infra reading: muse-wonder and subq-snap.
Verify you are looking at Pearl Research Labs’ L1 coin (prl1 addresses), not a random PRL ticker on Solana. Nothing here is investment advice.
Pearl PRL surge coverage should also warn about ticker collisions every time. PRL on a Solana DEX is not Pearl Research Labs’ L1 coin. If a friend sends a chart without an address format or explorer link, assume confusion until proven otherwise.
Miners have a different dashboard than holders: hardware eligibility under draft PIP-3, proof sizes, pool payout policies and whether running real inference cuts shares enough to make “useful” unprofitable. Alpha Finance’s summary of Kryptex commentary on consumer GPUs is a taste of that fight, not the final ruleset.
As with any young PoW AI hybrid, emissions, venue concentration and usefulness critiques dominate the medium-term debate. A green 24-hour candle decides none of those. It only decides whether CT talks about them today.
Research hygiene for Pearl means reading the whitepaper claims beside the usefulness-gap critique, not picking a team jersey. Our article quotes both because the Pearl PRL surge will otherwise get covered as pure dealmakers’ Twitter.
Emission math, venue thinness and hardware politics will still be there when the 24-hour percentage fades. Bookmark those, not only the ATH stamp.
