Ohio senate odds are the strangest gap between polls and prediction markets this cycle. At our 06:04 UTC snapshot (09:04 MSK) on November 2, Polymarket priced a Democratic win in Ohio at 72.5%, while most final polls show Sherrod Brown ahead of appointed Republican Senator Jon Husted by only two points. Crypto money has also poured into this race more than almost any other.
What actually happened
This is a special election for the rest of the term J.D. Vance left when he became vice president. Husted was appointed to the seat in January 2025, ElectionTracker notes. Brown, who lost his separate regular-seat race to Bernie Moreno in 2024, is trying to return.
Ohio voted for Trump by about 11 points in 2024, according to the same tracker. That history is why many pollsters stay cautious. InsiderAdvantage's Matt Towery wrote that Ohio "has recently had a pattern of turning hugely Republican on Election Day" and that Husted, who has been rising, "could actually defeat Brown."
Other October polls lean Brown's way by more. ElectionTracker cites Fox News at 52% to 47% and Marist at 48% to 44%. Its own final call is Brown by two.
What Polymarket thinks
The Ohio senate odds at 06:04 UTC:
- Democrats win Ohio: 72.5% Yes (bid 72, ask 73)
- Republicans win Ohio: 27.5% Yes
The market has seen about $2.58 million in volume, with roughly $197,000 in the last 24 hours. Compare that with forecasters. Pollytic lists Cook Political Report, Sabato's Crystal Ball and Inside Elections all at "Toss-up," and its own model gives Brown about 55%.
That is a 17-point gap between the market and a polling-based model. Either traders know something the models do not, or the market is running hot on national Democratic momentum.
When a market prices a coin-flip poll at 72%, someone is going to be very wrong on Wednesday morning.
The crypto angle
No Senate race matters more to the crypto lobby. Brown is a former chair of the Senate Banking Committee, and the industry's political spending shows how much it wants him kept out. CoinDesk's midterm guide says the industry has spent over $170 million in the 2026 election, mostly through Fairshake and affiliates, with over $60 million aimed at stopping Brown.
CoinDesk also notes the Senate could go either way and that some states may count ballots well into next week. Polymarket puts Democratic Senate control at 72.5% overall, and Ohio is one of the seats that number leans on. Why the market might be wrong
Start with the structure of the race. Ohio's statewide electorate has leaned Republican for years, and special elections can have unusual turnout. A two-point poll lead with a margin of error near three points is, statistically, close to a tie, no matter how confident the market looks.
Prediction markets react to national mood. A strong environment for Democrats lifts every race at once, even ones where local polls are close.
CNBC's October 30 investigation found that about 23% of congressional markets above $100,000 on Polymarket International and Kalshi had price spikes of 30 cents or more at some point. Big orders can move prices away from fundamentals, at least for a while.
On the other hand, polls in Ohio missed in both directions in past cycles, and markets sometimes price in late information faster than pollsters can.
What to do as a reader
Watch the early vote count against Ohio's 2024 pattern on election night. If Husted runs ahead of the polls in suburban counties, the Ohio senate odds could collapse fast.
