GPT-6 Intelligent UI lets ChatGPT answer with charts, diagrams, buttons and mini tools. OpenAI is rolling it out to paid users now and Free and Go starting October 8.

GPT-6 Intelligent UI: ChatGPT Now Answers With Charts and Tools
tl;dr
  • Paid tiers get GPT-6 Sol and Free and Go tiers get GPT-6 Luna, both tuned for everyday chat, according to OpenAI.
  • OpenAI says GPT-6 Instant starts answering web-search questions 44% sooner on average than GPT-5.6 Instant.
  • Intelligent UI does not work with the Pro effort setting, which still runs on GPT-6 Astra, or in older ChatGPT desktop apps.

GPT-6 Intelligent UI is OpenAI's big ChatGPT upgrade this week. Announced on October 7, it lets ChatGPT answer with charts, diagrams, tappable buttons, forms and even small working tools inside the chat, and it ships with new GPT-6 models for paid users now and Free and Go users starting October 8.

What actually happened

OpenAI introduced its first GPT-6 models for paid customers last month. On Wednesday it brought a new GPT-6 model to ChatGPT that it says is built for the more than 1.2 billion people who use the app every week. The rollout started in the Chat tab for Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise.

The headline feature is GPT-6 Intelligent UI. Instead of a wall of text, ChatGPT can decide that your answer works better as a visual. The Verge highlights OpenAI's demos: a seven-speed bicycle diagram with buttons that highlight each part, and a Mahjong lesson that sorts tiles into scrollable categories.

It can also build tools on the spot. 9to5Mac and The Verge both mention calculators, bill splitters and games generated right inside the response. OpenAI's own example is a dinner-party planner where you change the guest count and the shopping list rescales.

How GPT-6 Intelligent UI works

OpenAI says it built a library of native, streamable components plus a compiler that renders the interface while the model is still generating it. That is why the UI can show up progressively instead of popping in after a long wait.

The model was also trained on when not to bother. OpenAI says it evaluated generated interfaces for clarity, usefulness and completeness, and that a plain text answer is still the right call when it is the most useful option. In other words, it is supposed to skip the fancy stuff when you ask for a quick fact.

GPT-6 can also start answering while it keeps thinking. OpenAI says that on an internal set of everyday agentic tasks, GPT-6 Extra High begins answering as fast as GPT-5.6 Medium while scoring better than GPT-5.6 Extra High. Those are company numbers, not independent tests.

There are quieter upgrades too. OpenAI says GPT-6 is better at deciding when to search the web and at finding sources that actually support its answer. The Verge quotes the company saying the model "showed stronger resistance to attempts to bypass its safety training."

Who gets what

According to OpenAI's help center, GPT-6 replaces "Latest" in the model menu, and existing Latest selections move to GPT-6 at the same effort. If you explicitly picked GPT-5.6 Sol, you stay there. The rollout does not retire older selectable models.

Intelligent UI works on the web and updated apps at Instant through Extra High. It is not available on Pro effort, and the older macOS and Windows desktop apps do not support it. If you are on desktop and see nothing, try the browser.

One wrinkle: while OpenAI's announcement says Free and Go users get GPT-6 Luna starting October 8, the help center page we read still said Free and Go receive GPT-5.6 Luna. We are flagging the mismatch rather than picking a side. Expect the help page to catch up as the rollout lands.

What Polymarket thinks

There is no market on Intelligent UI itself. The closest is "Which company has the best AI model end of October?", which resolves on the Arena text leaderboard on October 31. At 06:10 UTC on October 8, the Polymarket best-model market had Google at 69.15%, Anthropic at 27.5% and OpenAI at just 1.1%.

That tells you traders see this launch as a product and UX play, not a leaderboard knockout. Shipping a slicker interface to a billion users and topping a blind chat ranking are two different contests.

What to do as a reader

Update your app, or use the web, and test GPT-6 Intelligent UI on something real: a trip plan, a budget split or a concept you never quite understood. Then check the numbers it gives you, because a nice chart can make a wrong answer look very confident.

Do not paste sensitive financial or personal data into generated tools just because they look like apps. They are still chat output. For the bigger picture, read our GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6.1 Sol coverage, and our October model odds roundup for the leaderboard race.
