Flávio Brazil runoff odds on Polymarket still sat near 77% Yes on the morning of October 17 even as Brazilian poll averages hovered near a coin flip ahead of the October 25 second round. That gap between prediction-market pricing and traditional polling is the story worth watching into Sunday’s vote.

What actually happened

Brazil’s 2026 presidential race is in a runoff after a tight first round. Rio Times’ updated briefing puts Flávio Bolsonaro at 47.03% and Lula at 45.16% in that first round, with the second round scheduled for Sunday, October 25. Poll averages compiled from 11 pollsters sit near 51.6% Flávio and 48.4% Lula — inside or near typical margins of error depending on the house.

Polymarket’s Brazil presidential election market, which includes the second round, told a different story at our ~06:01 UTC Oct 17 snapshot: Flávio Bolsonaro Yes at 77% and Lula Yes at 24%, on roughly $185.2 million of event volume with about $1.0 million in the prior 24 hours. Rio Times’ overnight note put both Polymarket and Kalshi near that same ~77% Flávio print around 1:20 am ET.

That board is therefore not “the polls in crypto form.” It is a traded price with its own liquidity, trader base, and incentive to price late information that surveys may lag.

What Polymarket thinks

At the freeze we used, Flávio Brazil runoff odds sat at 77% Yes against 23% No on the Flávio contract, while Lula’s Yes was 24%. Those are separate binary markets under one event page, so the Yes prices do not have to arithmetic-sum to 100. Read each as the crowd’s price for that candidate winning the presidency under the market’s rules.

Event volume near $185 million makes this one of the larger political books on the venue this cycle — closer to a major U.S. election market than a boutique daily crypto bracket. A single desk can still shove the short-term tape, but the notional is large enough that “one whale joke” explanations get thinner.

Polls near 50–50 and a 77% market are not a contradiction until one of them resolves. They are two instruments arguing about the same Sunday.

Polls versus the book

Rio Times’ poll average (51.6% / 48.4%) and the Oct 16 PoderData 50–50 print describe a race that still looks competitive on survey instruments. Polymarket’s 77% Flávio price describes a crowd that has already heavily discounted a Lula win. That divergence can close through late polling, through turnout surprises, or through market traders simply being wrong.

First-round margins matter for narrative, not for settlement: the market resolves on who wins the presidency, not on how close the first round was. The October 25 calendar date is the hard stop for the political story; Polymarket’s listed end around October 26 is the bookkeeping stop for the contract.

Kalshi sitting near the same ~77% Flávio level in Rio Times’ overnight note is useful context — a second venue, not independent proof that 77% is “correct.” Cross-venue agreement can still be correlated error if both books trade the same late narrative. Keep the Flávio Yes chip labeled with the snapshot time whenever you forward a screenshot.

What to do as a reader

If you follow Flávio Brazil runoff odds for the game, freeze three labels before you quote: snapshot time (~06:01 UTC Oct 17 here), the Yes percentage (77% Flávio), and the poll context (avg ~51.6/48.4, PoderData 50–50). Do not collapse those into one fake consensus number.

Watch whether late Brazilian polls move toward the market or the market fades toward the polls into Oct 25. Volume near $185M means screenshots travel fast — keep the event URL, not a cropped Yes chip. Nothing here is investment advice or a prediction of the winner.
