Claude Fable 5.5 Appears in Azure Catalog; Anthropic Still Silent
Claude Fable 5.5 showed up as azure_ai/claude-fable-5-5 in LiteLLM’s Azure East US 2 sync at 12:27 UTC Oct 13, while Anthropic still lists Fable 5.1 as the top Fable.
Early story. Some claims here are not officially confirmed yet. We update this post as it confirms.

- CellCog's tracker (updated 15:53 UTC Oct 13) says 30 of 31 fields in the new row match Fable 5.1, including $10/$50 per million tokens and a 1M context window.
- Crypto Briefing and OrcaRouter both stress the same gap: Azure metadata moved; Anthropic's docs still list Fable 5.1 as the top Fable.
- Opus 5.5, Sonnet 5.5 and Haiku 5.5 already shipped in the 5.5 family. Fable was not named in the Opus 5.5 launch note that previewed Sonnet and Haiku.

Claude Fable 5.5 is a catalogue string before it is a product. On October 13, LiteLLM's provider-sync bot added azure_ai/claude-fable-5-5 from Microsoft Azure's East US 2 model list at 12:27 UTC, and by afternoon Anthropic still had no announcement, model card or price for a Fable 5.5.
What actually happened
The factual chain is short and documented. LiteLLM merged pull request #46201 on October 13 after its Azure sync bot saw a claude-fable-5-5 identifier. OrcaRouter's writeup adds that Azure's management API in eastus2 returned the model with a GenerallyAvailable lifecycle flag and a December 5, 2027 deprecation date, while customer-facing Foundry docs still showed Fable 5 and Fable 5.1 as Preview.
That combination is easy to over-read. GenerallyAvailable inside one region's management API is a billing and support classification, not a newsroom launch. LiteLLM itself marked prices and limits as inherited from azure_ai/claude-fable-5-1 because no provider published a Fable 5.5 rate card. CellCog's table is blunt: identifier exists; Anthropic identifier, system card and price do not.
Anthropic's public rhythm still points at Fable 5.1 (September 1) as the shipped premium Fable, with Opus 5.5 (September 22) described by the company as performing at Fable 5.1's level on most work for $4/$20 per million tokens. Our earlier Claude Opus 5.5 and Claude Haiku 5.5 notes cover those releases.
Why the rumor keeps a 5.5 number
Leakers had floated "Fable 5.2" and "Fable 5.5" for the same alleged pretraining run through early September. Once Anthropic branded Opus, Sonnet and Haiku as 5.5, the 5.5 label became the cleaner rumor. CellCog and Crypto Briefing both treat that as pattern-matching, not evidence. The Azure row is the first cloud-catalogue hit that uses the 5.5 string; it is still not a launch.
Enterprise buyers care because Fable has been Anthropic's expensive, long-context Mythos-class line across Azure, Bedrock and Google Cloud since June. If Microsoft stages a successor first, that is a distribution story. If the row is a placeholder that vanishes, that is also a story. Either way, quoting $10/$50 as "Fable 5.5 pricing" is repeating Fable 5.1's card until Anthropic says otherwise.
A GA flag in eastus2 is not a model card. Stop copypasting the inherited price as if Anthropic published it.
What would actually confirm it
Watch Anthropic's models overview, pricing page and newsroom. Watch Bedrock, Vertex and Foundry customer docs for a non-placeholder row. Watch whether the Azure entry keeps GenerallyAvailable status and whether its prices ever diverge from Fable 5.1. A benchmark screenshot on X is not confirmation. A claude-fable-5-5 string you can call and get a distinct model field back is.
For how cloud-routing rumors usually age, compare the caution in our Muse Wonder coverage: ship notes beat vibes.
What to do as a reader
If Claude Fable 5.5 is on your radar, treat October 13 as a catalogue sighting with excellent secondary sourcing (LiteLLM PR, CellCog, OrcaRouter, Crypto Briefing) and zero Anthropic primary confirmation. Keep building on Fable 5.1 or Opus 5.5 until a real card appears.
Primary reads: CellCog's tracker and Crypto Briefing. Confirmations stay pending on purpose. Nothing here is investment advice — or procurement advice to rip out your current Claude endpoint tonight.
There is also a product-strategy angle hiding under the rumor. Anthropic already told customers that Opus 5.5 matches Fable 5.1 on most work at a lower price. A true Claude Fable 5.5 has to clear that bar or admit it is a specialized Mythos-class holdout for the hardest jobs. Until the lab publishes evals, every Twitter scorecard is fan fiction.
Microsoft's incentive is obvious: show Azure as the first place enterprises glimpse the next Anthropic SKU. Anthropic's incentive is equally obvious: control the narrative with a model card, a safety writeup and a price. The October 13 row satisfies Microsoft's catalogue machinery more than it satisfies a buyer's checklist.
If you maintain routing tables, do what CellCog did: log the sighting, keep serving the shipped models, and make Fable 5.5 a same-day switch only after a real identifier appears with non-inherited specs. That is boring. Boring is how you avoid paging onboarding at 2 a.m. because a placeholder row vanished.
Not financial advice. DYOR, ser.
