Bitwise Dogecoin ETF sets its last expected trading day

The Bitwise Dogecoin ETF is being liquidated after a September 10, 2026 notice from the sponsor. The expected last trading day is October 14. An October 1 market story repeats those dates and then adds a price snapshot the release does not contain.

The Bitwise Dogecoin ETF is being shut. Bitwise Investment Advisers said on September 10, 2026 that it would liquidate and close the fund, ticker BWOW. A separate market story dated October 1 adds a Dogecoin price snapshot and a claim about other funds' flows. The closure calendar below comes from the sponsor's release.

TL;DR - The sponsor's release says the last day of trading on NYSE Arca is expected to be Wednesday, October 14, 2026. Cash goes out on October 22 at the October 21 net asset value. - Shareholders do not have to do anything to receive that cash. They can still sell until the close on the last trading day. - The October 1 story's price and flow figures are not in the sponsor's release. One line on that page says "around $2.9 million" of weekly inflows, and a related headline on the same page says $2.89 million.

What actually happened

The Bitwise Dogecoin ETF notice on PR Newswire is timestamped September 10, 2026, 3:28 p.m. Eastern, which is 10:28 p.m. in Moscow. Bitwise says it decided to liquidate the fund, effective that day, as it optimizes its product range. The last trading day on NYSE Arca is "expected to be" Wednesday, October 14, 2026. Shareholders may sell in the secondary market until the close that day. After the close, the fund will cease operations. On Thursday, October 22, 2026, remaining shareholders receive the net asset value of their shares as of October 21, 2026, in cash. The release says they do not need to take action.

A key-dates box on the same release is slightly harder than the word "expected." It lists October 14 as the last day of trading and as the day to convert dogecoin to cash. It says creation of new BWOW shares will cease before the market open on October 15, 2026. It lists October 22 as liquidation and distribution. The prose and the box agree on the dates. Only the prose uses "expected" for the last trading session. This article does not drop that word.

The release points holders to the prospectus at the fund site and gives a phone number, (415) 707-3663. It names Foreside Fund Services as marketing agent. The boilerplate says Bitwise has $9 billion in client assets, a suite of over 70 products, a nine-year track record, and that it serves more than 5,500 private wealth teams plus 21 banks and broker-dealers, with offices in San Francisco, New York, and London. Those are firm-level figures in the release. They are not assets inside BWOW.

The risk section is explicit that DOGE is a memecoin, that memecoins are inspired by internet jokes or trends, and that most have no stated use case or intrinsic value beyond a digital collectible. It says the unlimited supply of DOGE may hurt long-term value, and that speculators are a significant share of users on a relative basis. It also lists liquidity risk, regulatory risk, blockchain risk, and the risk of a fund that holds a single asset and is recently organized. None of that is a forecast of the October 22 cash amount.

What the October 1 story adds

CryptoTicker's October 1 piece is written for readers in Germany. It says Dogecoin was at $0.0946 on Thursday morning, and that CoinGecko showed $0.094598. The 24-hour range on that page runs from $0.093635 to $0.097941, with turnover around $972 million. Market capitalization is about $14.8 billion, rank twelve, with around 156.1 billion coins in circulation. Over seven days the page shows a loss of 0.2 percent, over 30 days a gain of 13.3 percent, and over twelve months a loss of 60.9 percent. It puts the coin around 87 percent under a record of $0.731578 set on May 7, 2021. The day's high is given as $0.0979, just under a zone around $0.098. A September 30 note cited on the page puts supply last moved near that zone at around 28 billion DOGE. Those price figures are not in the Bitwise release.

On the Bitwise Dogecoin ETF, the October 1 page repeats the sponsor's dates: announcement on September 10, last trading October 14, cash on October 22 from the October 21 value. It adds a reason the release does not quantify: the fund launched in November 2025 and slipped below one million dollars in assets through outflows. Treat that asset figure as single-source. It is not in the PR Newswire text opened here.

The same story says industry services reported inflows into other DOGE funds, and that wallstreet-online reported around $2.9 million of net inflows for the week to September 25, called a weekly record. A related headline lower on the same page says the funds took in a net $2.89 million that week and that around 81 percent of the assets sit with one provider. The body and the headline are not the same string. This article does not average $2.9 million and $2.89 million into a third number. Both are small next to the $14.8 billion market cap the page itself prints, which is the comparison the story draws.

Open interest is also unresolved on that page. It cites about $1.5 billion from one outlet and about $1.66 billion from another, and it says the range is more honest than a single figure. This article leaves the two estimates side by side.

The German tax and ETP section is local law, not a feature of BWOW. The page names a 21Shares product, ISIN CH1431521033, and a Valour product, and it says a 2.50 percent total expense ratio on the 21Shares product is taken continuously. U.S. readers should not treat a German holding-period rule as their own. The useful point for everyone is narrower: the U.S. fund is closing, and a European exchange-traded product is a different wrapper with its own fees.

What not to mix together

Closing the Bitwise Dogecoin ETF is not a statement that every Dogecoin product is closing. The October 1 page says that out loud: one sponsor is winding down BWOW while other products were still reporting inflows that week. The sponsor's reason, in its own words, is optimizing the product range for investor needs. The news story's reason is weak demand, with assets under one million dollars. Those can both be true. They are not the same sentence, and only one of them is in the primary release.

A price of $0.094598 on October 1 does not tell you the October 21 net asset value. The cash holders receive is that later NAV, not today's spot print. Creation of shares stopping before the October 15 open means the share count is not going to grow after the last session. It does not fix the cash amount.

What to do as a reader (not a trade)

This is not investment advice. If you hold the Bitwise Dogecoin ETF, the sponsor has already told you the two dates that matter: an expected last trading day of October 14, and a cash distribution on October 22 based on the October 21 net asset value. Selling before the close is optional. Doing nothing is how the release says the cash still arrives. Confirm the dates against the prospectus if your broker's note disagrees with the release, and use the phone number in the release rather than a comment thread.

If you do not hold the fund, the October 1 price snapshot is a picture of the coin, not a reason to buy it because a wrapper is disappearing. The page's own open-interest cites disagree by more than a rounding error. The inflow line disagrees with itself between "around $2.9 million" and "$2.89 million." Neither figure is a forecast.

Other Dogecoin and memecoin posts, including a public testnet write-up and a memecoin crash post, are about different events. Bitwise's September 10 release is the primary page. CryptoTicker's October 1 story repeats the closure dates and then adds the price, the sub-one-million asset claim, and the conflicting flow lines.
